VClock › Guides › Why the Europe–US time difference shrinks by an hour in March and autumn
The US and the EU change their clocks on different dates, so for a few weeks each spring and autumn the usual gap between them is one hour shorter. Here are the exact windows for 2027–2031.
The US springs forward on the second Sunday of March. The EU follows on the last Sunday of March. In autumn the EU falls back first, on the last Sunday of October, and the US follows on the first Sunday of November. In both windows the usual gap is one hour shorter. New York to Berlin, for example, is 5 hours instead of 6.
